Laced Records of London has published the Quake II deluxe double vinyl soundtrack, available for preorder in standard black or limited edition red and orange LPs.

Estimated for shipping in January, the two-disc analog record release features 19 tracks from the 1997 first-person shooter, with sleeve artwork by id Software and Jason Williford. Preorders are open at distributors Light in the Attic in Seattle and PixelCrib in Australia.

Quake II was originally developed by Id Software for Windows, featuring a soundtrack by Sascha Dikiciyan of Sonic Mayhem and Jer Sypult. The sequel expanded the playing field to wider areas and added the player character's ability to crouch. The protagonist, a marine named Bitterman, is tasked with thwarting an alien invasion of Earth by infiltrating the headquarters' of the cybernetic Strogg army on their home planet of Stroggos.

Bethesda Softworks shadow-dropped an enhanced port for Windows through Steam, PS4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Series X|S consoles. The 2023 edition, also available through Xbox Game Pass, comes with a new expansion pack, titled "Call of the Machine" by Machine Games of Uppsala, Sweden. The remaster, developed in collaboration with Nightdive Studios, supports online and local multiplayer cooperative play.

The edition includes Quake II 64 as a free downloadable add-on. The Nintendo 64 port released in 1999 was handled by Raster Productions, formed by former Midway Games developers. The console port introduced a new plot, brand new levels and real-time lighting effects. Another unique element was the ambient and industrial score by Aubrey Hodges, credited as Ken "Razor" Richmond.

"This was the last Nintendo 64 game that I composed," mentions Hodges in the liner notes. "I did a few ports later on but this was the last original. I must admit I never looked back. The N64 was a beast to work with. I did remixes of 2 tracks because there is a nasty bug in the midi music playback system that caused both tracks timing to drift in the game."

The official soundtrack album for the Nintendo 64 edition of Quake II recently commemorated 10 years of publication on composer Aubrey Hodges' Bandcamp page. The digital album includes the classic game score and a Finale Remix.
