Developers Square Enix and DokiDoki Groove Works have scheduled Octopath Traveler 0 for release on December 4th.

Employing the HD-2D design methodology, 2D pixel art is enhanced with 3D graphics to give players the feel of traversing a living diorama. New to the series, a customizable character serves as the protagonist. In addition, there are over 30 recruitable characters, requiring upwards of 100 hours to complete.


The player character's mission is to restore the downtrodden village of Wishvale, located on the continent of Orsterra. This aspect of the narrative introduces base-building and farming features to the role-playing game franchise, with Octopath Traveler 0 operating as a reimagining and expansion of free-to-play mobile game Champions of the Continent.

Music is directed by series composer Yasunori Nishiki. The recently revealed main theme begins with delicate piano and keening strings before taking a darker, more haunting atmosphere that resolves in a rousing, celebratory finale. Excerpts of all music tracks from Champions of the Continent Vol.1 and Vol.2 are streaming on the official Japanese-language website.

The HD-2D turn-based role-playing game will launch for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PS4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S consoles, and Windows through Steam. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Arrangements Break & Boost Vol.3 on compact disc.
