The 2CD set 'Technosoft Music Collection - Hyper Duel' marks the latest milestone in Sega's celebration of the Sega Saturn home console's 30-year history, following up on last year's release of 'Fighting Vipers 30th Anniv. Album.' As with prior Sound Shock albums, this seventh entry in the series includes an ambitious, brand-new arrangement medley by Kei Takanishi.
Hyper Duel arrived in arcades in Japan in October of 1993. Developed within Technosoft, including staff members responsible for the popular Thunder Force shoot-em-ups, original music was composed by Hyakutaro Tsukumo (Tsukumohyakutaro).
The official Sega Music web portal describes the designers' initiative to take on a new goal, allowing the player's Buster Gear to transform into robot form to meet the needs of battle conditions. Hyper Duel received a Sega Saturn port in November of 1996, exclusively in Japan.
'Technosoft Music Collection - Hyper Duel' goes on sale in Japan on Thursday, November 26th. Disc I is dedicated to a new digital recording of the TEC442-A arcade game score. “HYPER DUEL -Full Suite Super Arr Ver.” is comprised of a roughly 24-minute non-stop medley, revisiting stage themes, boss battles, and the ending. The full suite is arranged by Takanishi as a further continuation of his contributions to the Technosoft Music Collections.
Disc II serves as a bonus disc, remastering Sega Saturn sound sources. These tracks cover the full-length “Saturn Mode,” in addition to the “Arcade Mode” variations differing from the actual arcade hardware. The album comes with a booklet with commentary from Takanishi and former Technosoft development department head Naosuke Arai, as well as other participants.
