The demo includes five single-player stages, showcasing an updated combat system with tighter controls over the original game. Beat-em-up gameplay integrates combo chains, parry mechanics, special attacks, and finishing moves.
The full release for Windows PC is currently feature-complete, supporting co-op gameplay. In addition to the arcade mode campaign previewed in the demo, an added challenge mode centers on high-pressure trials with specific mission objectives, alongside a practice mode for players to experiment with combos.
The demo soundtrack, composed by Francisco Cerda, is streaming on Apple Music and Spotify. The musician cites assorted period-specific influences including synthwave, 90s breakbeat and house, and the Yamaha YM2612 sound chip's FM synthesis utilized on Streets of Rage 2 for the Sega Mega Drive.
From the Steam product page:
Takeover 2 is a hard-hitting, arcade-style beat ’em up and the sequel to 2019’s The Takeover. It features stylish updated visuals and a completely overhauled combat system, delivering tighter controls and significantly expanded gameplay depth.Takeover 2 (Original Soundtrack) Steam Demo - Apple Music / YouTube Music
For Takeover 2 OST I took inspiration from synthwave, 80s action B-movie scores, 90s breakbeat/house, and the iconic YM2612 FM sound in Streets of Rage 2 soundtrack by Mr. @yuzokoshiro (who also did music for the first Takeover game!).
