The 2D action role-playing game, developed by Vanillaware, follows six fabled heroes of Japan's Genroku era—original protagonists Momohime and Kisuke, alongside Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki. Each character wields their own distinct fighting style.
Muramasa: The Demon Blade originally launched in 2009 for Nintendo Wii, followed up in 2013 by an enhanced port for PlayStation Vita, entitled Muramasa Rebirth.
The 4K-remaster, introducing newly recorded English-language voiceovers, includes the horror-themed 'Genroku Legends' expansion. The downloadable content was inspired by the phantasmagoric ukiyo culture of Japan's late 17th century Genroku period.
Music is composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, Masaharu Iwata, Mitsuhiro Kaneda, Kimihiro Abe, Noriyuki Kamikura, Azusa Chiba and Yoshimi Kudo. The Muramasa Original Soundtrack, Arrange Album, and Genroku Legends expansion score are hosted on Spotify and Apple Music. Cover art is by game director George Kamitani.
Muramasa: Revenant Blades will launch early in 2027 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 5 consoles, and Windows PC through Steam. The Limited Edition physical release includes a soundtrack CD featuring select tracks from the score. The announcement trailer can be viewed on the Marvelous USA YouTube channel.

These swords grant their owner both incredible power and a madness that can be sated only by blood. As various factions clash over these mythical weapons, demons and evil spirits drawn to the bloodshed rampage across the land.
