Capcom has published the Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess soundtrack album, released alongside a behind-the-scenes featurette. The 53-track album is streaming on Spotify, including the theme song performed by Tokyo-based singer-songwriter ermhoi.
Produced by Masato Kumazawa of Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways (2023), the single-player action-strategy game is directed by Shinsekai: Into the Depths art director Shuuichi Kawata. The aesthetic of Kunitsu-Gami is inspired by kagura, a form of Shinto purification ritual.
A day-and-night cycle divides the single-player game into complementary gameplay objectives. Protagonist Soh is entrusted with protecting Yoshiro the Maiden as she purifies the land, traversing the peaceful village of Mt. Kafuku during the day in preparation for nightfall.
At night, encroaching otherworldly enemies, known as the Seethe, stream in through Torii gates. The player issues orders to the villagers to protect the Maiden, selecting combat roles such as melee attacks or defensive maneuvers. The aim is to safely guide the Maiden to the Torii gates to cleanse the mountain of defilement and return peace to the land.
Music from the Capcom title is by Chikara Aoshima of Shinsekai: Into the Depths, with four arrangements of themes from Okami by Rei Kondoh, Hiroshi Yamaguchi, and Masami Ueda. Kunitsu-Gami is available for PS4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Series X|S included with Game Pass, along with Windows through Steam, verified for use with the Steam Deck.
