Developed by Cavia and directed by Yoko Taro, Drag-On Dragoon launched for the PlayStation 2 console on this date in 2003. The action role-playing game was localized for English-language regions, and published under the title Drakengard, the following year.

The compact disc release of the soundtrack album was published in two separate volumes, performed by the Tokyo New City Orchestra. The 47-track digital album "Drakengard Original Soundtrack Re-release" combines Drag-On Dragoon Original Soundtrack Vol. 1 and Drag-On Dragoon Original Soundtrack Vol. 2.

Music from Drakengard by Nobuyoshi Sano and Takayuki Aihara is hosted on Steam, published by Square Enix. The album is streaming on Apple Music, YouTube Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music Unlimited.

From the Steam product page:
Released by SQUARE ENIX in 2003, Drakengard was a cult classic RPG that not only featured a gripping story but also radiated a sense of "madness" through its music, breaking the mold of conventional games. The soundtrack that captivated countless fans has finally returned.
