Sega celebrates Puyo Puyo 35th anniversary with 'Dairensa' Album
The Puyo Puyo puzzle game series turns 35 this year. Developed by Compile, the debut entry in the tile-matching puzzle game franchise launched simultaneously for MSX2 and the Famicom Disk System on October 25th of 1991.

Players line up groups of four or more of the same color “Puyo” blobs to clear them from the screen. Triggering chain reactions, or rensa, inspired the 35th anniversary catchphrase "Dairensa," or "big chain reaction."

Commemorative album 'Puyo Puyo - 35th Anniversary Dairensa Album' is scheduled for release on August 24th in Japan, pressed on two compact discs. The Sega Music album highlights composition and arrangements by series sound director Hideki Abe, debut selections from Puyo Puyo Touch and Puyo Puyo!! Quest, and vocal tracks performed by series characters' voice actors.

Disc One is comprised of 54 tracks, structured in three parts: "Historically Arranged," "Poppin’ Puzzle FUN," and "Boss Rush." Disc Two spans 32 tracks categorized as "Vocal Versions," "First-time CD Title Selection," and "Bonus Tracks."

The album includes four SOUND! SHOCK tracks: "Obstacle" and "Erase" Puyo Puyo Re;mix from 404 GAME RE:SET, "Puyo Puyo eSports Main Theme," and special bonus track "35th Anniversary Punipuni Denki × Puyo Puyo Collaboration Track."

The previously released Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop Original Soundtrack includes 35 music tracks composed by Abe. Four additional SOUND! SHOCK series special bonus tracks are arranged in the style of the 16-bit Sega Mega Drive console.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Series X|S consoles. The Windows PC edition is on Steam, verified for use with the Steam Deck. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
