Dig Dug arrived on Nintendo Famicom on this date in 1985
Namco's Dig Dug arrived on the Nintendo Famicom home console on this date in 1985. Primarily designed by Masahisa Ikegami, the arcade game is a featured title in Bandai Namco's Namco Museum compilation for Nintendo Switch.

Dig Dug challenges players to dig routes beneath the ground. The playable digger is armed with a harpoon to fend off subterranean monsters Pooka and Fygar. Using an attached air hose, Dig Dug can inflate the felled enemies until they swell and blow up. Alternatively, he can tunnel under rocks to drop them on unsuspecting foes.

Composer Yuriko Keino's first professional assignment at Namco was creating Dig Dug's music and sound effects for Namco's Galaga arcade hardware. Dig Dug Game Sound Effect Original Soundtrack is part of the Namco Legendary series. The 23-track album is hosted on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music Unlimited.

Arcade Archives Dig Dug is available for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The console port published by Hamster Corporation supports alternating two-player play.
