Independent developer BerserkBoy Games has published their debut title, arriving today for Windows through Steam and Nintendo Switch. Berserk Boy is a high-speed platformer, inspired by classics of the genre.
Set in the distant future, a mad scientist called Dr. Genos and his army of Dark Energy minions set out to enslave the citizens of planet Earth. Harnessing elemental Orb energy, protagonist Kei sets out across New Hope City and beyond to fight back as his superpower-wielding alter ego Berserk Boy.
Emerging victorious from each large-scale boss battle grants Kei new abilities to jump, dash, slam and slide through hazardous terrain. Chaining together combos fills Kei's Beserk Meter, allowing him to unleash devastating attacks upon swarms of enemies. Gaining offensive moves like uppercut attacks, and maneuvers such as grabbing onto horizontal bars, introduces Metroidvania elements to the gameplay.
Returning to prior levels, Kei can discover alternate pathways, unlock EX missions, and earn funds to purchase upgrades. By mastering special abilities, completionists can challenge high scores and aim for S ranks for each stage.
Complementing the nostalgic gameplay, the Berserk Boy digital soundtrack album is published through Steam, composed by Tee Lopes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. The music blends electronic and rock styles, composed of electrifying synths and heavy guitar licks. Across the music score, Berserk Boy delivers the kind of memorable melodies that its predecessors in the action platformer genre are known for.
