28 years ago, on this date, Nihon Falcom's Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand for Super Famicom launched exclusively in Japan.

Following Hudson Soft's Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys, the Kingdom of Sand retains the top-down action role-playing elements, though protagonist Adol can now manually swing his sword in place of automatically striking foes. Critiques that the initial release was a pushover were addressed through the introduction of a more challenging Expert edition in 1996, concealing a hidden dungeon within Dorman's manor.
