Developed by Konami for the Sony PlayStation in 1997 and later ported to the Sega Saturn, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night features scenario writing and design by Koji Igarashi. Symphony's focus on exploration helped define the "Metroidvania" genre, as acquiring new abilities allowed Alucard to access uncharted locations on the castle map.

The story of Symphony of the Night directly follows the events of Rondo of Blood for PC Engine CD. When Dracula's mansion unexpectedly materializes from out of the ether, the half-human son of Dracula follows vampire hunter Richter Belmont onto the castle grounds and encounters Maria Renard, the maiden rescued by the Belmont clan years earlier.

Both the original Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night are included in the PlayStation 4 exclusive Castlevania Requiem. Michiru Yamane's influential music score is available for streaming through Amazon Music and Apple Music.

Publisher Mondo's two-disc vinyl soundtrack release includes seven bonus tracks from the Sega Saturn port, remastered and featuring original artwork by Jasmin Darnell. The analog record set is available for shipping from PixelCrib in Melbourne, Australia.
