Square Enix has posted the Dragon Quest VII Reimagined opening cinematic trailer. The turn-based role-playing game's environment reflects a diorama-style aesthetic, while the look of Akira Toriyama's characters is patterned after hand-crafted dolls. The developers are aiming for a more streamlined storyline with optional side quests and minigames.

An extensive free demo for the remake, developed in collaboration with HEXADRIVE Inc., has launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles, along with Windows through Steam. Save data progress can be carried over into the full game release when Dragon Quest VII Reimagined debuts on February 5th.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past for Sony PlayStation launched just over 25 years ago. The Nintendo 3DS remake developed by ArtePiazza followed in 2013.

Composed by Koichi Sugiyama, Sugi Label published Symphonic Suite Dragon Quest VII in October of 2006, featuring arrangements performed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. All twenty orchestral renditions of music from the turn-based role-playing game are streaming on Apple Music.

From the Nintendo product page:
Join young Auster and his friends, Prince Kiefer and Maribel, as they embark on a quest to restore long-forgotten lands. Use mystical stone tablets to travel back in time and come to the aid of troubled towns. Solve perplexing puzzles and face unique monsters in classic turn-based battles to shape the world’s past and present.

In this huge adventure, you must conquer dungeons and defeat enemies that block your path. To overcome monsters, issue commands to individual party members in turn-based battles – or, if you’re confident that your party can handle the situation, you can activate “tactics” to let fights play out automatically.
