Konami first published the soundtrack to Super Nintendo shoot-em-up Axelay in October of 1992 as a compact disc.

Super Castlevania IV staff members were involved in the development of the space-themed sidecrolling shooter, whose stages alternate between vertical and horizontal scrolling levels. Shared staff members include producer Kazumi Kitaue, graphics designer Satoshi Kushibuchi, sound designer Masanori Adachi, and composer Taro Kudou. The music composer later contributed to the score for Game Boy Advance title Castlevania: Circle of the Moon.

More recently, Axelay appeared on the Wii U Virtual Console service, launching in February of 2015. The 20-track digital soundtrack album is streaming on Amazon Music Unlimited.
